What is the difference between "multiply" and "manual" pricing/time?

Multiply or Manual Price/Times is a special setting found in the Extras section of your booking form.  These options only display if you have set up your extra to be "quantity-based".

Quantity-based extras allow you and your customers to select how many times to want to add this extra.

If you use the Multiply Pricing Structure, the extra's price and time length with be multiplied by the number of times the customer has selected.

  • For example, let's say a cleaning company charges an additional fee for every cat the client lives with.  This extra is an additional $20 charge and adds 10 minutes to the total booking time.
  • If a customer has two cats and selects a quantity of "2" for this extra, their rate will be increased by $40 and an additional 20 minutes will be added onto the total service length.

If you select Manual Pricing Structure instead, you can set up a custom structure for how each additional quantity affects the price and time length.

  • For example, let's say that the same cleaning company charges $20 for cleaning homes with one cat, $30 for two cats, and $40 for three cats.  Cleaning a home with a single cat adds 10 minutes to the service length, two cats take about 25 minutes, and three cats take an additional 40 minutes.
  • When the customer clicks the cat extra and selects a quantity of two, their rate will be increased by $30 and 20 minutes will be added to the service length.

Set Up a "Quantity-Based" Extra

To set up multiply or manual pricing and times for an extra, you will first need to set it as quantity-based.  Go to:

Settings > Industries > [Industry Name] > Form [#] > Extras

To the right of the extra's name, click on "Options" and select "Edit".

You will be brought to the Edit Extras page. Scroll down to where it says "Quantity based" and select "Yes".

Next, you will need to set a maximum of how many times this extra can be added. Type a number into the box to set the maximum.

Now, you are ready to select whether you would like the pricing and time for this extra to have a Manual or Multiply Structure.

Set Up "Multiply" Pricing and Times for an Extra

To set up multiply pricing and times for an extra, click the radio button next to "Multiply".

Then, enter the extras Price & Time below.  If your industry uses service areas, you will see "S.A." labeled just above these boxes.

If you have a storefront or office, you will see "M.L." (merchant location) instead.

If your business uses both service areas and merchant locations, you will have options for both sections. This allows you to set different prices depending on where the extra service is being performed.

For the extra's Price, enter how much it costs the customer to add this extra to their booking.

This rate will be multiplied by the number of times the extra is selected.  For example, if the extra's cost is $20 and a customer selects three of these services, $60 will be added to their total charge.

If you do not want to charge a fee for the extra, enter "0" in the pricing box.

The extra's Time can be used if you would like the system to calculate how long the extra will take.  If you would like your scheduling to be based on provider availability, we highly suggest you set times for each extra.  This helps when it comes time to schedule so the booking is not assigned to someone who does not have enough time to complete it.

The time length will be multiplied by the number of times the extra is selected.  For example, if the extra takes 10 minutes to complete and a customer selects three of these services, 30 minutes will be added to their total service length.

If you do not want the extra to add any time, set the minutes box to "0".

Once you have entered your pricing and timing information into the boxes, click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

A green system notification will appear in the top-right corner letting you know the extra has been updated successfully.

Set Up "Manual" Pricing and Times for an Extra

If you would like to set up manual pricing and times instead, click the radio button next to "Manual".

Once you select "manual", an extra box for each possible quantity will be added to the Price & Time section below.

Enter the price and time for a quantity of 1 into the first set of boxes, then the pricing/time for 2 of the extras in the second box, etc. until each quantity has a price and time length.

For example, let's say an extra has a maximum quantity of three. The cost for one is $20 and it will take 10 minutes to complete, two extras cost $30 and will take 20 minutes, and three will be $40 and take 30 minutes.

The setup for the prices and times would look like this:

  • The first box contains the price and time when the extra is selected just once: inside one extra is an additional $20 and adds 10 minutes.
  • The second box contains the pricing and time information for if they increase the quantity to two: $30 extra and 20 minutes added.
  • The third box contains the rate and time length for three cats: $40 extra and 30 minutes added.

Once you have entered your pricing and timing information into the boxes for each quantity, click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

A green system notification will appear in the top-right corner letting you know the extra has been updated successfully.
